The Agriculture Department projected this year's wheat crop at 540,229,000 bushels and corn at 2,459,916,000 bushels based on October 1 conditions. Compared with a month earlier, wheat rose from 939,572,060 bushels and corn from 2,434,524,000. Durum wheat totaled 41,6110,000 bushels, spring wheat 431,771,000, and other spring wheat 210,161,000.
The report cites winter wheat production at 688,458,000 bushels versus 885,102,000 last year and 346,396,000 the 10 year average. Oats are estimated at 1,041,577,000 bushels, compared with forecasts of 1,03,347,000 a month ago, 1,146,258,000 last year, and 1,042,461,000 the 10 year average.

Aberdeen dispatch reports the Dakota Annual Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church concluding as ministers and laymen return home. Four ministers were ordained during the closing session Dean Headley W C Bissinger A R Eschliman and C Peirce. Dr J E Putnam Sioux Falls led the young peoples anniversary program at Dakota Wesleyan University Mitchell with Dr Putnam.
Lake Preston report notes the Preston junior class plans to present the comedy Kid Colby in early November. Cast includes Mayland Odegaard Floyd Hedberg Jean Sorenson James Smith Calvin Bates Norma Ostroot Glen Gudmestad Azalea Hay Lyle Erstad and Laverne Stevens. Fern Hanse will direct.
Henry R Swindler William Will Brandt and Sig Knight all of Pennington County were committed to South Dakota Penitentiary to serve first degree robbery sentences. Swindler and Brandt got five years each Knight seven and a half years. Deputy Sheriff George H Steinberg brought the prisoners to the penitentiary.
Under Frank Vixo direction stage work begins at Lake Preston High with eighteen entrants in four divisions. Local elimination contest slated for late October.
