Farmers Warned Against War Hysteria By AAA Administrator
MINNEAPOLIS Oct. 4 A warning against war hysteria among farmers that could lead to costly plowing of grasslands was issued by RK M Evans administrator of the Agricultural Adjustment Administration. In an address to grain and feed dealers, Evans urged restraint, cited large wheat allotments for 1940, and warned against expanding acreage on grassland. He said the AAA aims to balance grass and tilled crops and stressed no plowing up of grasslands. The 1940 wheat allotment was 62,000,000 acres, seven million above 1939, with expected harvest near 750 million bushels and ample domestic needs. He noted increased fertility and better farming methods under the AAA making extra production attainable on better land, not marginal land. He cautioned farmers about expanding wheat acreage amid plenty.
