Balanced Farm Economy Urged

Sioux Falls reports that home produced farm food by low income families aided by the South Dakota Farm Security Administration reached a cash value of 1,358,224 dollars last year. Families canned 298,700 quarts of fruits and vegetables, butchered 1,828,400 pounds of meat, used 2,439,800 gallons of milk and 729,400 dozen eggs. If purchased, the value would exceed 1,358,284 dollars. The text notes 222,669 acres of wheat at 9.1 bushels per acre at 67 cents per bushel would equal about 6.10 dollars per acre, implying that nearly 223,000 acres would be needed to buy the home food crop.
