Dams Proposed to Save Fish in Spink Beadle Counties

Deputy Game Warden Fred Curtis outlined a plan to build four dams in Spink county and two in Beadle county to conserve fish. A four foot dam near Beadle Spink would capture spring water feeding the river, with another potential dam near Mennonite colony in Beadle. Three Spink dams are already in place under Game Commissioner Hughes. the fourth to start soon. The dams aim to keep winter fish from freezing and dying while not reducing river flow above Huron.

Fortnightly club hears Fortyniners program on gold rush

The Fortnightly club met at Mrs A A Wollmanns home with president Mrs Wollmann presiding. Mrs Theodore Smogard spoke on the Forty-Niners and the westward movement to California. The tale described land and sea routes, hardships of crossing deserts, and the lure of gold despite heavy losses.

Wild West Revival Rumors Reach South Dakota Ranchers

In western South Dakota rustlers using revolvers and stolen cattle titles threaten isolated ranchers. Sheriff Bruce Barnes reports four night rider attempts on R. H. Two Are Arrested In De Smet Raid

De Smet authorities in a raid on Lindstrom Filling Station on Highway 25 arrested Ted Lindstrom and Ed John Sheres after liquor was found. Officers had previously observed purchases of liquor by government agents. A separate note reports E MecKenzie paying a $1 fine for parking in an alley by the Huron clinic after his car was tagged Tuesday night.

Conventions Likely to Head to Cleveland and Chicago

Washington reports that both parties plan to bring national conventions westward in 1944 with Cleveland and Chicago favored to host.
