Van Ness Lea Vitt, brother in law of President Hoover, on liquor possession charges after Lea Vitt was seen leaving a neighborhood grocery with a sack holding 19 pints. Lea Vitt, a 50 year old reded plumbing contractor, reportedly confronted by federal prohibition officers and arrested.
Reports from Tokyo and Geneva describe renewed clashes on a new front near Kuchengtzu south of Mukden and resumed shelling at Tientsin. Casualties cited total 1,600 Chinese and 190 Japanese with 300 Japanese wounded. Martial law spreads in Shanghai and Hankow as 3,000 Nanking students demand war. Emperor Hirohito orders a brigade to Manchuria. four destroyers move from Port Arthur to Kure.
Ambassador Charles G. Dawes is sent to Paris to attend the League of Nations council on the Manchurian question starting next Monday. Secretary Stimson says Dawes may not join council sessions but will be available to confer with other nations if needed to safeguard U S interests and treaty obligations.
