Desperate Yankton Bank Robbers Linked to Notorious Gang
Five heavily armed bandits robbed Yankton’s American State Bank on July 19 and fled in a fast steel-lined 1931 Chrysler Imperial sedan. The gang, led by Bill Bailey with aliases, was described as among the nation’s most dangerous criminals, tied to the Burke mob and past Denver mint and Chicago train robberies. Authorities traced the car, warned sheriffs, and noted the crew’s use of modern gear and plan to avoid populated stations while escaping along dirt roads toward Canton.
