Pierre South Dakota November 12 C Johnson director of the state game and fish department said many requests for an extended pheasant season have been received but delaying extension would be required. A commission vote then county publication and a 10 day waiting period would follow. The earliest extension could start is about December first with weather uncertainty and reduced hunter enthusiasm cited as reasons against extending.

Doctor removes pheasant bone from esophagus in rare operation
Madison November 22 A local specialist performed a delicate procedure to remove a pheasant bone half an inch thick lodged low in the esophagus of Albert Eggebraaten Rutland. A long electrically lit metal tube was inserted the full length of the gullet to extract the bone. Only two of these instruments exist in the state one in Madison and one in Sioux Falls. Eggebraaten was reported resting comfortably after the operation.

County to keep only one road open this year
Eureka November 12. McPherson county board of commissioners, citing last winter’s high costs, voted November 5 to keep State Highway No. 10 open for winter only, with all other roads to be opened by nearby farmers or users at their expense. They ordered a carload of snow fences for State Highway No. WH and directed D. D. Savage, the pathways superintendent, to buy posts to erect the fences.

Complete new feldspar mine at Keystone opens
The new feldspar mine at Keystone has been completed and tested. Foreman Mr Garthwait directs 100 tons of ground feldspar ready for shipment. Mahlon Susong of Erwin will oversee the mill, reside in Keystone, and manage operations. Garthwait will demolish the Murphysboro mill and ship to Rochester, N Y. Hugo mine head Atcheson leads other company holdings. The mill, when at full capacity, will employ about 25 men.

125 Bushels of Corn in One Day by Detroit Man
Hobert Emerson of Detroit Michigan husked 125 bushels of corn at the Andrew Wollman farm near Meno in a day. The corn came from Jim river bottom land noted as among the county’s best fields. Emerson and two companions traveled from Detroit via North Dakota to Saskatchewan before returning after threshing. They host large elk antlers and a moose trophy from their northern journey.
