Doctor Shortage Not Too Severe Says Dr Parran
Dr. Thomas Parran, surgeon general, told a Senate subcommittee he is not ready to urge compulsory assignment of doctors to private practice without broader national service. He expects about 115000 physicians to remain for civilian work after 55000 are available to armed forces. He noted wartime tuberculosis may rise but overall health is better than in the last war and general health conditions are not bad.
