Religious Week Brings Chapel Talks at Sioux Falls College

Sioux Falls college begins Religious Emphasis Week with a five chapel program series led by four visitors: D. Earle V. Pierce, Rev. R. Wilbur Babock, Dr. E. J. Dahlberg, and Saw Chit Mong. The Burmese student addressed students, outlining changes from a ready made to a real Christian. Dahlberg spoke on prayer and the kingdoms of God across economic, racial, and pleasure realms, urging personal kingdom reform and self-study as a path to world improvement.

Political Science league elects officers at USD

Vermillion November 3 officers of the Political Science league at the University of South Dakota were chosen. Don Fowler was named president Carl Christol vice president Harold Corey secretary and LaVerne Williamson treasurer. The club invites campus members to join and hear speakers on local, state and national government with HL Trachsel as advisor.

Virgil Family Given Farewell to Move to Oregon

A farewell party was held at the Clark Fring farm near Virgil for Mr. and Mrs. Clark Fring and their family. Attendees included Virgil Home Makers Extension Club members, families, friends and neighbors. Mrs Irving received a shower of handkerchiefs. a luncheon followed. The Irvings will relocate to Oregon to make their home.

Desmet South Dakota November 3 Special reports the first carload of Black Hills pine cut by the CCC for relief needs has reached Kingsbury county. Farmers on relief rolls are hauling their allotted shares to homes and ten more citizens have been ordered for the county to assist.

Farm sale proceedings run under a sales company management attract buyers from east north and south. For three years western Kingsbury county has seen farmers travel by truck to bid at auctions, taking home machinery stock and other items as feed becomes more abundant.

Kingsbury county will conduct a site exchange day on November 8 with De Smet as the exchange location. An afternoon auction will sell sites not exchanged and packer buyers may purchase scrub sites. The program is managed by Charles Sayer, emergency county agent.

Vermillion November report describes Ephriam a small Japanese turtle kept as a pet by a University of South Dakota student Hazel Windahl of Hudson South Dakota a member of Alpha Phi sorority She shows visitors the turtle in a pan of water with a Century of Progress painted on its back A bulldog entered the room last Sunday and lapped some of the turtle’s water before Windahl chased it away and saved the pet.

Rural Church Clinic at Turtons Congregational Church

A Rural Church Clinic event at Turtons Congregational Church drew visiting ministers and the local pastor Rev H M Bissell to lead discussions on spiritual life and church finances. Speakers included Dr. W Keck Ipswich Rev H C Salter and Rev Carl Hutchinson. Two banquets were held with 40 young diners at the parsonage and toastmasters introducing speakers on The Avenue of Flags.

Gettysburg November 3 special says final disposition of reorganization plans and proposal to affiliate with the Irquois federation will be made at the Gettysburg Service club meeting next Tuesday noon. Discussion covered affiliating with the federation of Central South Dakota business groups, action deferred to next week. Reorganization calls for evening meetings once a month instead of weekly noon luncheons. The club grew from Kiwanis after severing relations about a year ago.

Potter County Teachers Elect Officers In 1933-34 Session

Potter County teachers met at the courthouse in Gettysburg to reorganize for the 1933-34 school year. Gerald David was elected president and HW Lyman named state convention delegate while Inga Hranstad will serve as ex-officio delegate. The group reported 100 percent participation in state and county educational activities and anticipated a strong vocational program despite adverse conditions.

Roberts County to Build New Jail in 2000

Sisseton Nov 3 Construction is set to start within a week on Roberts County’s new 2000 jail after bids were opened Henry Carlson of Sioux Falls won the main contract. Iron work goes to St Paul Iron Equipment, plumbing to Wahpeton heating and plumbing, electrical work to Jack Ackerson of Sisseton. Other courthouse grounds projects are under review.

Woonsocket women entertained at a bridge party Friday and Saturday at the Bratsberg home. Missionary Group Meets In Preston

The Lutheran Missionary society of Lake Preston hosted the Women's Missionary Federation meeting in Preston on Tuesday in the Lutheran church. Delegates numbered 175, with Rev. C. Sunde of Arlington delivering the main address and Rev. J. E. Borgen of DeSmet guiding the devotional. Musicians included Gladys Kettleson, A M Peterson, J E Borgen, and Walter Matson.
