Income Taxes Compared in England and United States
A University of South Dakota economics talk compares English and American income taxes. The English system taxes higher incomes less. the U S exempts more, with a couple earning 1500 taxed $12 and a 50 000 income yielding about 15 000 in England versus far less under the American system. The speaker warns lower exemptions would lift tax shares for many and spur citizen interest in government spending.

Cattle Prices Drop In April
Brookings May 27. Prices of all cattle kinds and grades fell during the first three weeks of April and continued in May according to the federal bureau of agricultural economies. Beef steers at Chicago hit their lowest price since early 1922 and the lowest April reading since 1915. The April decline stemmed from large supplies and weak demand for beef for consumption and for stocker and feeder cattle. Receipts at seven leading markets were up 6 percent from April 1950, 4 percent above the three year April average, the largest in five years. The bureau cited feeder uncertainty about future markets and seasonal marketings as key factors. Peak marketings typically occur in late May or June, then supplies fall and prices rise into mid-September, with summer prices likely to advance but possibly below average due to weak demand abroad and at home.
