One hundred thousand pounds of dry skim milk arrived from the federal surplus commodities program to be given to relief recipients. Miss Nettlezam Brunnen, surplus commodities director at the Beadle County Community Service Center, said the powder contains all milk solids except butter fat and can be reconstituted with water to replace fluid milk.
The director stated that limited budget families unable to buy enough fluid milk benefit from a five million pound dry skim milk purchase. The program, under the Agricultural Adjustment Administration, supports milk producers by converting fluid skim milk from many farms across Minnesota Wisconsin Michigan Indiana Illinois Idaho California Washington Oregon and Pennsylvania into a valuable dietary product.
SIOUX FALLS May 26 Burke Grain Company president S A Burke was fined a total of 1.00 in federal court after pleading nolo contendere to three counts of a information alleging violations of the commodity exchange act in running the grain brokerage and keeping improper accounts. One count was dismissed. The company operated a grain brokerage here for years before bankruptcy.
J L Anderson a Huron police officer was awarded 160 damages from Fred Huntwork and P R Westling after a January auto collision with a delivery truck. The jury deliberated three hours, and Judge C N Hall dismissed the May term case. Max Rouiss defended Anderson. Boyd Benson led the defendants’ counsel.
