City to Return to West Wells for Water Supply
City officials plan an immediate return to the west wells for summer water after river supply was cut in. Pumping from the James River was halted this morning with flushing to begin, as engineers push plans to reinstate river water by early summer. City engineers note river water is safe though taste may be unpleasant, caused by weed growth from spring rains, and may be improved by aeration and filtering. Costly ammoniator equipment, intended to reduce taste, is under consideration for purchase between six hundred and sixteen hundred dollars at a forthcoming commission meeting.
