Snag Seen In Wheat Loans May Raise Prices Above World Levels
The prospect exists that even minimum loans on the new wheat crop could lift prices above world levels and hinder exports. Under the crop loan law the rate is 6 to 86 cents per bushel based on a $1.15 rough estimate. AAA officials note domestic grain quotes neared the minimum loan as market quotations placed the farm price around 65 cents per bushel yesterday. The loan program triggers when the farm price on June 15 is below 52 percent of parity or when the July crop estimate is in excess.
