Sorghum Planting Expected to Surpass 1939 State Forecast
A statewide survey by the Greater South Dakota association shows likely sorghum plantings far exceed the 1,001,000 acre government estimate for 1939. Counties report gains from five to as high as five hundred percent with corn hog and cattle counties forecasting major increases in grain sorghums as feed crops. The GSDA committee notes swine poultry and rising cattle numbers boost the crop’s role in agriculture and rotation.
