Curtis Confesses He Never Contacted Abductors In Lindbergh Case
Hopewell Virginia May 17 John Hughes Curtis one of the Norfolk negotiators in the Lindbergh kidnapping case wrote a complete confession stating all boats and people he claimed to have met were figments of his imagination. He said he sought lucrative newspaper and film offers for his story which spurred his deception and that there was no real basis to his earlier accounts. The coast guard and federal agencies pursued the fictitious clues while Curtis remained free. Col Schwarzkopf announced the confession and Curtis pledged no arrest was made. Regulars in Norfolk voiced continued reliance on Curtis amid the unfolding revelation.
