Miss Abbie Whitney testified identification of letters and records while Charles Warren said Johnson diverted a 285 remittance and 550 in other checks to cover shortages. Estella Hunt, a former department bookkeeper, faces trial later for aiding Johnson in concealing a 560 shortage. Paris war bulletin reports German motorized columns penetrating France from Sedan as thousands of planes and tanks clash along the Meuse front. Allied forces contend with German armor pushing from Namur to Sedan and along the Belgian defense line amid heavy artillery duels and air action.
Berlin reports heavy fighting along a ten mile front from Antwerp to Namur as German forces retaliate after French long-range artillery. French artillery strikes Rastatt, and Germany responds by shelling Hagenau near Strasbourg. The Allied push advances toward Zeeland, Belgium, and areas north of Namur as the drive continues.
London reports the Royal Air Force launched its strongest night bombing east of the Rhine and into Belgium. The attack aimed at German road and rail lines supporting the invasion of the Low Countries and Luxembourg, with fires and heavy explosions noted. Allied communiqués say resistance slowed Germany's push, and British troops in Belgium held back major attacks as planes disrupted German mechanized formations near Brussels.
