Engineer Held by Mexican Rebels Feigns insanity for release
Oklahoma City May 9. Civil engineer William B. Roper, working on a Southern Pacific roadbed near Hermosillo, was captured by Mexican rebels. He feigned insanity to avoid execution, was imprisoned four days without food or clothing and beaten. His release came after the American consul intervened, aided by the claim he was insane. Roper reached Nogales and wired his brother and attorney about international complications.

Williams Secures New Gar Agency for Huron Area

Large crowd at music festival fills Huron college auditorium
An audience of nearly 1000 attended the festival last night at Huron college in Woonsocket with more than 300 children from Wessington, Alpena, Highmore, Sty Lawrence, and DeSmet contributing entries in five classifications. The program opened with a Wessington Springs band performance and closed with Woonsocket high school band selections. A second free music week starts tonight with solos and college and high school groups in a program directed by Darlington Hendrickson.
