Leslie Lewis defeated Bill Wright in a runoff to win the 1937 38 student president post at Huron College after a six week campaign. Four candidates started the race and Thursday votes showed Wright 98 to Lewis 7. the runoff tally was 112 to 10 in favor of Lewis.

Pierre May 8 The South Dakota supreme court issued a temporary order barring the state department of justice and public safety from spending funds pending a decision on the constitutionality of the 1935 act creating a law enforcement fund. Governor Leslie Jensen and others challenge the law’s provisions and the writ calls for show cause by June 4. The ruling blocks salaries and expenses of the department and targets officials including State Auditor Ray Kelly and State Treasurer W H Hinsehman.
