South Dakota to spend near quarter million on elections
South Dakotans will pay about a quarter of a million dollars for the primary and general elections this year. The estimate matches near 1930 costs with $248,000 borne by counties and the rest by the state. Election judges and clerks, printing, and convention mileage dominate county expenses, with ballots and candidate lists influencing fall costs. In 1931 the legislature appropriated $10,000 for primary costs, while county totals varied from $3,175 to $1,166.
