Washington May 3 Republican leaders in the house sought to re establish their voting strength for important ballots on the export debenture plan and tariff amendments. The house aimed to finish action on the tariff measure this session while the senate would take up the conference report next week. Special judge Frank B. Fisher granted Alphonse Lapke a stay of execution on his life sentence until May 27. Yellowley said both owners knowingly permitted liquor law violations and actions would proceed in federal court in Peoria.
