Dates of AG contests set for May 10 and 11 in South Dakota

Vocational agriculture and home economics contests for South Dakota high schools are scheduled at State College on May 10 and 11. More than 85 accredited high schools will receive notices, with contests noting six agricultural events and several home economics exhibits.

Marion officials announce that Washington awarded Dr. A B Holfer the contract to erect a new post office building in Marion. The government will lease the structure for ten years and operate the facility as the town’s post office.

State beacon to be visible for 100 miles

Brookings May 1 The 3 000 000 candle power air plane beacon light atop the 165 foot campanile at South Dakota State college will be visible to aviators over 100 miles away and to ground observers up to twenty miles away, engineers say. The revolving beam makes six turns per minute and may reflect on clouds for greater distances.

Gettysburg Grain Elevator Sold to Local Owners

The Atlas elevator in Gettysburg was purchased by Guy Chadsey J Williams and John I School all of Gettysburg. Adolph Moritz Redfield auditor handled the sale. They will take possession June 16 with Chadsey as manager, operating under the Home Grain company name.

Springfield May 1 Poor roads forced Dean Luluz Spilde of the Southern State Normal schol to walk three miles to a speaking engagement at Colone last Thursday. She was scheduled to address the Parent-Teacher association but muddy roads stalled her transport and she continued on foot to deliver her address.

Preston Pool Set to Open Late May or Early June

Lake Preston reports the town pool will open in late May or early June after renovations led by street commissioner OG D Thorsness. The lighting circuit has been extended for better illumination. Bernard Dahlen returns as lifeguard, and trees shrubs and vines are being planted around the pool area with a new aquatic garden and fountain planned.

Boy Finds Money Hidden by Tornado in Davis

Neil DeBoer an 11 year old Davis resident found a package of government funds blown from the post office during the September tornado. The money totaling 350 dollars in five ten and twenty dollar bills was turned over to Postmaster Daniel who awarded the boy three dollars from his own funds.
