City Commission White Papers Pave Over Two Miles in Huron

Huron city commission favors more than two miles of street paving across 26 blocks in the mayoral term. Resolutions set hearings for May 11 and May 21 at 7 30 p m at the city auditor office to hear objections from property owners in 45 areas. Petitions circulated since February show broad backing for paving along Dakota Avenue Third Street Iowa Avenue Lawn Ridge Avenue and several others with bids by city engineer O A Ricker and paving types reinforced concrete or gibrolithic.

Aberdeen Train Derails Near Ordway Injuring None

A southbound Chicago and Northwestern train derailed near Ordway eight miles north of Aberdeen yesterday afternoon. Only the engine remained on the rails as the tender baggage cars and coaches derailed but stayed upright. Local officials could not determine the cause and planned wrecking efforts to clear about 10 rail lengths of track and roughly 250 ties.

Washington reports that from March 1 to April 15 the general farm price level dropped two points from 188 percent of pre war levels. Declines across crops livestock eggs and wool were offset somewhat by higher hogs beef cattle sheep lambs horses and chickens with weather delaying farm work in northern areas and aiding moisture for wheat.

Air passenger line opens in Huron as monoplane flies

In Huron two hundred attend the ceremony for South Dakota s first regular air passenger service on the Huron Rapid City line. The five passenger Ryan monoplane, piloted by Ed Helfley, started at 9 20 am from Huron field with a stop at Pierre, en route to Rapid City in about one hour at 130 mph.

Wellington Springs May 1 Special Bids for construction of three reinforced concrete highway bridges on state highway 41 in Jer auld county have been advertised by the state highway commission. The structures include one 34 foot and two 23 foot spans. The improvements will lie between a point four miles east of here and the county’s southern line.
