Rule Oil Land Owned By U S
The General Land Office ruled that the federal government owns Elk Hills oil lands in California, not private companies. Section 16 land in Kern County was claimed by California, General Petroleum, O'Donnell, Tupman, and Potter Oil, who have 30 days to appear to Secretary Ickes. The lands are tied to national defense. Section 36 was earlier won back and awaits appeal.
