Tornadoes and hail battered five Midwestern states killing at least 32 people and leaving about 250 injured. Officials report widespread destruction with hundreds homeless and damage exceeding 1 million dollars as storms devastated Central Illinois including Kinsey where seven died and children among the victims.
Paul F. Braden, a former C N W Railroad dispatcher in Huron, now in tui n t q after a storm near South Fokin, suffered a broken arm. He came to Huron about 15 years ago from South Pekin to join the railroad, worked in the Dakota Division for 12 years, and the Braden family lived at 438 Fourth Street Southwest.
A series of tornadoes struck Illinois Missouri Kansas and Arkansas causing numerous deaths and injuries. In Pekin and surrounding towns four to six people died and hundreds were affected as homes were destroyed and a rail depot collapsed. Red Cross officials sought a $100000 relief fund and responders mobilized across several states.
President Roosevelt attacks organized foes of his government reorganization plan calling them enemies. He says he has no inclination to become a dictator and cites three reasons why he would avoid dictatorship. A letter dated March 29 defending the measure is published, continuing on page six.
An all night oil fire with gale strength winds was brought under control by Sturgis and Rapid City firefighters early Thursday. The Sturgis Refining Company plant on the city edge was nearly destroyed with losses estimated at 21 000 to 25 900 dollars by owner Charles Brodsky. A separate blast in Canada near Edmonton killed five and seriously injured five at the Hinton properties.
Federal officials report Joseph Hanley, 4 7 year old misprint aside, confessed to kidnapping cases in Sioux City and Nishnabotna late 1934 to 1935. He faced removal hearings in Cheyenne before extradition to Iowa. Hanley reportedly worked at a railroad plant near Laramie and escaped from Woodbury County jail.
Alpena March 31 Special Neighbors will plant 100 acres of small grain for Roy Smith due to his wife's serious illness. Eight of ten tractors and 19 to 18 men volunteer in a community project dubbed Trig 8, with work to begin tomorrow barring cold weather. Volunteers will broadcast grain and harrow it in. a noon dinner will be served at the Methodist Church.

Albert J. Maaz of the South Dakota Federation of Labor urged the Committee for the Retention of Air Service in Huron to back a $19,000 bond issue to buy land, extend runways, and light the W. W. Howes Municipal Airport. Committee chairman Glyven E. Bruemmer warned the Department of Commerce could drop air service without improvements, noting Huron now enjoys four-way service and a transportation edge. Dr. Jay Spink reported ongoing area concerns as the meeting continued.
Honolulu dispatch reports six airmen vanished during mining warfare after five were killed when a plane crashed near Waianae on Oahu. Night search found no trace. naval officers hold hope the missing crew may be alive. The crash involved TVP18 under Lieut. Charles Signer. crew included Barro-bina Pancoast Bingham Williamson Orlundsen.
