War Vets Recall Historic Marilao River Battle

Rapid City veterans of the Spanish American War recall the March 27 1899 Marilao River engagement in the Philippines. The South Dakota regiment led an advance through waist deep floodwater into a native stronghold. Company M members were present and two Rapid City men Sergeant Smith and Oscar Fallon were fatally wounded. The regiment suffered nine deaths and three officers lost.
