Italian Sailors Rescued by Japanese Freighter

A Japanese freighter Matsumoto Maru rescued 76 Italian sailors from the destroyer Muggia after it sank in a storm 150 miles northeast of Shanghai. The Matsumoto Maru answered SOS calls and embarked survivors found drifting and on rocks, then proceeded toward Suanghut.

Huron Woman Released From Federal Custody

Ruth Riley of Huron, brought back from California in a Huron auto theft ring case, was released on her own recognizance by Federal Judge James D. Eltrad in Sioux Falls. Seven defendants are in custody. Riley previously lived near the Burman Slothing store area and was connected to Mike Evans and Deputy Sheriff A. Larsen in the case.
