GETTYSBURG Mar 21 Special Wild ducks that stop on the farm of Ruben La Rosh near Gettysburg show a preference for barnyard life. After being grounded by a storm last December three mallard drakes and two hens stayed, were fed by the LaRosh boys, and finally obtained a state permit to keep the birds. The flock grew to five drakes and eight hens. Meanwhile regional conservation work included removing dirt from snow fences, contour farming across 1,396 acres, planning range management, seeding 168 acres to sorghum, 204 to sudan with a deep furrow drill, 55 to small grain, retiring 279 acres to grass in 1939 and 190 acres this year. A dam on railway land was repaired, serving as wildlife habitat and livestock water near Faith, the shipping point for surrounding territory. Faith benefits from reduced dust and stronger cooperative land-use plans as drifting fields lessen and range practices improve.
