Salary And Wage Earners Will Pay More Taxes Under New State Setup
South Dakota plans a net income and retail sales tax replacing the gross income tax starting July 1. The measure raises taxes on salary earners and many professionals while potentially easing burden for retailers and some other groups. The law sets graduated rates from 1 to 8 percent, with deductions for individuals and families, and imposes permits, exemptions for government sales and utilities, and a three month reporting window. Revenue is split with 32 percent to schools and the rest to administration and the general fund.
