Election Board Rules For Primary Ballot Handling In Dakota

Johnson Explains Vote On Prohibition Ballot

Representative Royal C. Johnson of South Dakota explained his reasons for voting to consider the liquor control resolution. He cited 4,000,000 or more veterans and 12,000,000 new voters since 1918 plus many women with no vote on the eighteenth amendment. The House voted 227 to 187 against taking up the legislation. Other South Dakota congressmen joined him in opposing consideration.

Gann Valley Stages Declamatory Contest

The George Washington Bicentennial Declamatory contest for Buffalo county was held at Gann Valley. Edward Martin won first in the grammar grade and will represent Buffalo county in the district contest at Pierre with "Washington the Nation Builder." Bonnie Hubbard took second, Ralph Stewart third. Phyllis Menzie won first in the intermediate section with "The Little Red Stamp," Chester Dye second, Virginia Hall first in the same level with "To Washington," and Mary Dykes second.
