Contour Trees Grow Fast on Winner Farm Moisture Boosts Growth
Two year old contour planted trees on Maurice Renot’s farm nine miles east of Winner showed rapid growth despite some replacements. The project, part of the Winner Dixon demonstration, uses contour planting to conserve moisture with ditches between rows and possible diversion ditches to feed trees. State extension officials note trees guard against erosion, reclaim degraded land, and provide wind breaks with potential AAA payments for planting and ditching.
