Changes Made In Extension Force In Brookings

Brookings March 2 Special changes in the State College extension service were announced after Rex Bankert resigned. A. M. Eberle and A. J. Norgaard announced temporary agronomy leadership by Norgaard who joins Sully County. John Jeremiason is appointed Sully County agent effective March 27. Jeremiason studied at Dakota Wesleyan University and Butte County AAA officer experience, with leadership of AT clubs. Ralph E. Johnston remains extension arrow cust on a one year leave to serve as Land Use appraiser.

Miller Grade Pupils to Present Operetta

Miller March 2 Special. Under the direction of Margaret Bilis and Marvel Schweppe the Miller Grade School boys and girls are coached in the operetta Green Ich will be presented this evening. Assisting are Emily Olson Nita Carstens Anne Shouse with costumes and Mildred Bahning Florence Knutson handling stage management. This operetta is the first by the Miller grade school music department in several years.

Pierre March 2 The lone woman in the South Dakota House Rep L M Larsen of Washington Springs finally spoke after 57 days of silence She timorously rose to support a mothers pensions levy bill despite a political standoff, as her Child Welfare Committee chairmanship and presence sparked resistance from colleagues The session marked the end of her prolonged absence from the floor.

Rustler's Pep Band Concludes Busy Year

Miller reports the Miller pep band finished its school year after performing at nine basketball games four football games the district basketball tournament and many pep rallies. The group played regular and novelty numbers including German tunes and wore German costumes on two occasions. Two trips were made this season to Redfeld for the football game at the Phesants Homecoming and to Highware for a basketball game.

Codington Board Grants Hospital Contract in Watertown

Codington County commissioners approved a Lutheran hospital medical contract with a maximum cost of 18300 and a medicine contract at 2700. The bids favored Bartran at 17000 and a Bartran medicine contract at 2000, despite the county's prior year medical relief costs around 45000.

Mitchell Debaters Triumph in Woonsocket Meet

Mitchell prep debaters won both debates in a triangular meet against Woonsocket Wolsey and Mitchell. Wolsey split results, Wo onsocket lost both decisions. Non decision rounds were held. Lead Slayer Is Given 12 Years At Hard Labor

Ane Soto, 35, a Lead Mexican, was sentenced to 12 years at hard labor for first degree manslaughter in the February beating death of his wife at their Lead home. She died February 26 in a local hospital after severe injuries, including a broken jaw and missing teeth. Judge Charles R. Hayes noted the defendant’s prior punishment and mental anguish.

Youths Held For 25 Cent Robbery Near Sioux Falls

Police investigations tied two youths to a 25-cent robbery of a 14-year-old boy four miles north of the city. Richard Brown reported loss of 24 cows and a hunting knife after being ejected from a car by Robert Christopher 18 and Harold Sandberg 22. Woonsocket March 1 Special Monday opening of Seidschlaw Implement Co 28 featured a free show in the local theatre and a free lunch for attendees. Counties Lose By New Bank Tax

South Dakota adopts a franchise tax on banks that shifts revenue from counties and school districts to the state. National banks will pay 34 000 to 44 000 more to the state treasury, while counties and schools lose shares previously earned from monies and credits taxes.
