The 84th Division veterans from World War I are set for a reunion in Sioux Falls on August 10 and 21. Sioux Falls Man Loses Appeal To Supreme Court
The South Dakota Supreme Court upheld the commitment of Erwin Acker of Sioux Falls on an illegitimacy charge, reversing a county court’s habeas corpus release. Acker, unable to post bond, was committed December 1, 1932. release ordered May 1, 1989. The court ruled the illegitimacy act does not violate the prohibition on imprisonment for debt. Judge Warren wrote a dissent.

Large crowd attends Farmers Union picnic at Lake Preston

He and partner Carl Graf own the plane and equipment and Towers explains color pictures capture beauty better than black and white and can provide accurate records of areas traveled. He has photographed Hot Springs dam area in South Dakota the Badlands and strip farming near Alcester while noting South Dakota looks good from the air or on the ground. Towers began photography in college and became an expert photographer by graduation in 1936. he is now program director for KFDY radio station.

Post Office Ranks In Sale Of U S Bonds
WESSINGTON SPRINGS June 29 Special Nick Anton postmaster announced the local post office ranked fourth among South Dakota second class offices in the sale of United States savings bonds during the 1939 calendar year. The rating is based on per capita sale. Local officials have received word that the Postoffice Department in Washington has taken a five year lease on the present post office building in Wessington Springs which has been its location for 13 years.

De Smet Pioneer Church to mark 60th anniversary

Vehicle registrations rise in early 1940 totals
Pierre June 29 The secretary of state reported motor vehicle registrations rose in the first five months of 1940 with autos totaling 145 916 up 3 865 and trucks 27 197 up 1 725 from 1939. Trailer registrations also climbed from 16 869 to 18 546.
