Huron city commissioners vote to retire 10 000 dollars in water plant bonds on July 1 and note the smallest bonded debt among six South Dakota cities. The plan saves interest by paying bonds early from sinking funds and fire department funds.
Watertown on June 27 holds its fifth annual dairy parade under ideal weather. Prize cows from North Dakota enter downtown in a show with bands from the region, a downtown call show, and a concert program featuring six bands marching in the business district after the afternoon concert.
A hail storm about ten miles by five struck between Labolt and Milbank around dawn, causing significant damage to cornfields and nearly destroying small grain. A heavy rain followed, with precipitation heavy in the Milbank region, per telegraph reports from Watertown.
Al Hurd a 77 year old survivor of the Custer massacre remains in the Macon jail, refusing court costs and release. The sheriff urges payment noting it is fishing time, but Hurd insists he will stay for better care and grub he receives there.
Rapid Air Lines Inc plans unified aviation services across five northwest and central states from Rapid City. The move, under Halley Aviation Management Inc, names A W Spence as general manager and sets up offices in Sioux Falls Huron Watertown and Rapid City with potential new routes including a Winnipeg to Omaha link.
Firemen from Parkston led the state tournament here morning score Parkston 38 Bridgewater 35 with Bridgewater 20 16 yesterday. Spectacular motor fire truck and hose coupling races drew large crowds. Final competition scheduled tomorrow afternoon as fire chiefs elect officers and the convention closes Friday night.
George Starring the South Dakota secretary and Thomas O'Brien newly elected head of the association left Haven for talks today. Bankers and Haven confer with the association to discuss plans and future cooperation.

About 20 musicians from Huron Elks Lodge No. 444 depart for Mitchell to represent the lodge at the state convention. The Huron Municipal Band plans a regular concert in J W Campbell Park Friday night due to many Elks musicians serving both groups. Albert Anderson wins first in trap shooting with 48 of 50 targets. Bert York ties for second, but Mitchell’s Hastcott wins shoot-off with 25 straight. Gus Anderson posts 45, placing Huron third in the event with Tolmle and York also on the team.
Members of the Spanish War Veterans will attend the funeral for Abe Nystedt to be held at 7 30 tonight in Walsh chapel. The Christian Science service will be used and Mrs Sohn Sauer will be reader. The body will be taken to Nystedt’s former home for burial.
Finishing touches linger as contractors wrap the Lyric Amuge ment. a new five story office block east of the National Bank of Huron nears completion. Two lat eight spaces are leased with one store space occupied and others under option. Western Union Telegrap h continues setup in the west store section without service interruption while tenants begin moving in. Max Royal and J T Max Cullen hold the largest second floor suite.
J. Bingham of Hot Springs president of Fall River Royalty of Producers confirms that his group brought in a 12 barrel oil well at West Mule Creek. The Barker ranch near Wyoming hosts two more drilling outfits including Dillon Company rushing work on a dome near Provo and a Ta group from Council Bluffs on the Shiloh structure.
South Dakota supreme court upends Meade county ruling, holding that reading any Bible version in common schools violates religious liberty. The decision states Bible reading and Lord’s Prayer in opening exercises are devotional, not secular, and must be kept out of the classroom to respect parents’ conscience.

President Hoover offered Alexander Legge president of International Harvester a possible seat on the federal farm board. Legge met Hoover at the White House but no decision was announced. Other candidates mentioned include Carl Williams Denman Teague Wells and a banker named Majorie Arthur Bykhabpe.
The J C Penney company will spend about 30 000 on remodeling the Dexter building in Huron after a closing out sale ends around August 2. The plan includes a new front with two entrances, a 30 foot rear extension, a large balcony, and new fixtures. After work, the store will have nearly double the current floor space and equipment costing about 12 000 will be added.
