Bishop Strikes At Blue Laws At Adventist Camp Meeting

Bishop Charles Thompece of Minneapolis spoke on religious liberty at the Adventist campmeeting, urging church and state remain separate. He warned against blue law bills and quoted Lincoln and Harding, asserting government cannot compel religion and that rights come from God. Union College’s Prof. P L Thompson and Rev. B L House joined as instructors.

Merle Brown Elected Walton League Leader in SD

Merle Brown of Sioux Falls was elected president of the South Dakota division of the Walton League of America at the seven annual convention. Watertown was chosen as next year’s convention city and William Perrenaud of Sioux Falls was elected secretary treasurer. Senator Peter Norbeck and Governor Warren Green spoke at the banquet as the senator departs with Henry O’Malley of the U.S. Bureau of Fisheries for Alaska.

Fedora Fedora and vicinity hit by brief storm damage

A Sunday evening wind and rain storm from the northwest caused minor damage near Fedora two miles south at the A K Lambert and Harvey Staffin homes with blown down chicken houses and fences. the H T Zhumer itian home lost a silo and a sun porch. Some hail and downed telephone lines reported. Rain aids crops and pastures.

Farm Picnic Draws Crowd and Local Events Highlight Danforth

A Danforth resident renewing ties, a large St. Lawrence grove farm picnic featured music and speaking by the Wayland bard. Gann Valley Blue Jays lost to Burdette 7 to 1 in a season’s first defeat. Families toured Fort Thompson and Chamberlain. Ladies club met at Don Heitzman’s. picnic planned for Morrison school June 20. Funeral services for James Kintigh, 58, held Sunday and burial in Miller.

The South Hand County picnic committee will meet at the P. V. hall Monday evening to set a date for the picnic. St. Lawrence is planning a celebration in the St. Lawrence grove on July 4.

Woonsocket residents Mira Stella Anderson and Mrs George Webb depart for Aberdeen to attend Grand Lodge. Henry Klostermeier of St Louis visits with W C Blostermeier, then returns home. Ronnefeldt and Joe Christensen head to the Grand Lodge of the Odd Fellows in Aberdeen as Woonsocket and Forestburg delegates. Palma Hiland, daughter of Nels and Mrs Hiland, Woonsocket, died suddenly in Terry Montana. Mr and Mrs W H Williams of Minneapolis visited Woonsocket and Wessington Springs.

James Kintigh Dies Suddenly at Miller

James Kintigh died suddenly in Miller on Thursday after being in apparently good health until half an hour before. The funeral was Sunday at the Presbyterian church with burial in the G A R cemetery. Nearby, Mr and Mrs John Nelson of Buffalo County were dinner guests at the Will Wade home. Carl Dunwoody was called to Pierre Thursday by the serious illness of a relative. Miss Katie Cotton works at the Ted Weis home in Pukwans. The Children’s Day program at the P B church was postponed and will be held next Sunday. Maynard Collier of Holabird visits his grandparents, Mr and Mrs O W Dearbeen. Committees for the Old Settlers picnic plan a PV hall meeting Monday night to arrange the event.

Recreation Day Trip and Narrow 4-H Loss Reported

Bonilla Mrs James Bales Mrs Al Miller Miss Grace and Viola Russell Mrs Fred Mc Bichan and daughters and Mrs Rex Gilmore traveled to Huron Thursday for the annual recreation day. A rain shower Thursday evening aided the crops. The Bonilla Butter Booster 4-H club kittenball team lost to Whiteside 10 to 4 on Sunday.
