Case Would Restore Manganese Tariff
Representative Coase of South Dakota urged in the Congressional Record that the government reinstate the one cent per pound manganese tariff to stabilize the domestic industry. He noted the 1930 rate and the half cent cut under a wage agreement, arguing the smaller increase would barely raise steel production costs. He also said he abandoned hope of obtaining action this session on a tariff resolution related to manganese in reciprocal trade deals with Britain and Canada and terminating the Brazil accord.
