Supreme Court News Reverses Three Rulings in SD

South Dakota Supreme Court reversed three lower court decisions and dismissed one appeal in Pierre. The Lundberg appeal was dismissed for lack of party status, while the court preserved questions on attorney claims against the Mulligan estate. It upheld the Bank Commission against stockholder liability for Andrew Heckentaible and ordered a new trial in the Chelpon death case. It also affirmed a decision denying F O Finlayson compensation.

Prospects Good for Northwestern South Dakota Crops

C F Orvis reports May moisture and showers kept topsoil moist. Wheat rye and alfalfa show good growth with rye reaching 45 inches in one field. Drought damage limited by cool wet weather, but cutworms damage corn. haying and shearing underway. grazing fine as pests fade.

Boy Run Over By Gravel Wagon In Montana Visit

The four year old son of Dwight Harnia of Montana was run over by a sand wagon at the Mason Ford home. He rode the wagon fell off and the uncle driver immediately lifted the wagon before wheels passed over his abdomen. The boy was taken to a hospital. The Herviz family visits Mrs Hartis sister Mrs Ford with brothers Allen and Harvey.

Rock Pile Reduces County Dependents

Brow county reports charges have fallen about 50 percent since the rock pile program began. R B Easton led operations and informed the county commission. About forty three former county charges have been removed by recycling broken concrete for road and street construction in the launch of the Big Summer project.

Athol notes lodge picnic and church events

Athol reports detail the Royal Neighbor lodge picnic planned for June at E J Hopkins grove with locals attending from Athol. A children day program followed at the Congregational church after Sunday school. Rev Gebhart of Redfield preached a farewell sermon as he departs. Fred McKichan and Will Radike went fishing near Big Stone for a few days.

St Lawrence Pastor Cleared in Iowa Rumor

In St Lawrence on June 15 Special report says Rev. J. T. O Neill was rumored jailed in Iowa after a May 26 automobile accident. The rumor proved false as he was delayed two days for insurance adjustment and not accused in the crash.

Prizes Awarded At Yankton Golden Jubilee Commencement

At Yankton's fiftieth annual Golden Jubilee commencement a large set of prizes was awarded for academic and oratorical excellence. Winners include Will T. Flanagan Debate prize Arthur Scholten and Theo Liddell for debate with cash awards, and several English and oratory prizes among freshmen and upperclass students. additional awards were announced for oratory, Drake prizes, and the Robert H Miller essay prize with cash scholarships.

Athol Young People to Attend 1932 Camp

Five Athol youths prepare to attend the Young People assembly at Lake Kampeska on July 3. Evelyn Booth and Bonnie Rhoades will join the Gene conference at Lake Geneva Wisconsin. In August few South Dakota girls have such an honor, with both Athol attendants to be juniors. Booth has four years state conference work and Rhoades three years plus Geneva camp experience.

Cavour, Jane reports Cavour Peony Farm in full bloom as Mr Burger’s extensive peony beds attract hundreds of visitors. The farm, about 44 miles north of Highway 14, expands each year with new beds and protected planting.

Lockwoods Leave Athol After Week Long Visit

Mr and Mrs E R Lockwood of Huron depart Athol after a week at Mrs F D Booths home. They visited the old farm near Ashton and fished the James River. The couple marks 50 years of marriage and will spend summer fishing in northern Minnesota and visiting friends in Town and Wisconsin before returning to Huron in fall.

Injured in Machine at Athol Farm

Sperialy-Roy Weed a 16 year old boy was working on the John Knapton farm seven miles west of Athol when his right hand was caught in gears of a feed mill. His glove tore and his thumb injured though not seriously. The Boy Scouts camp at Cot, Wood Lake with Richard Price enjoyed swimming hiking and camp fire. Four Atholtes attend summer school at Aberdeen normal. H A Rhoades and daughters Bennie Grace Maude Rasmussen registered. Mr and Mrs R K Wilhelm with Myrtle Ella Wilhelm toured through South Dakota and Wyoming.

Wool Market Is Improved in Brookings Trade

Substantial improvement appears in the wool market over the past week in Brookings. Buyers grow more active, lifting sentiment and current quotations. Prices remained mostly steady with several lines of fleece wool moving. Texas 12 month wools fetched 35 to 38 cents per pound on a scoured basis, while South Dakota wools were valued against Boston reports for the week.

Farm Union Picnic At St. Lawrence Park Draws Big Crowd

The 10th annual farm union picnic was held in St. Lawrence park with a large attendance. A picnic dinner, musical program, and address by Mr. Saltmarsh of Miller followed. Sports and festivities continued as over 1,000 people attended the event.

Mother Nature Repents For Past Actions In Lake Preston

Lake Preston reports heavy weekend rainfall with 12 inches in total starting Saturday. Town measured about a half inch with an inch reported south of town and three quarters of an inch on Sunday. Rye stands high and looks to yield well while other grains mature. corn and potatoes appear vigorous.

Lake Preston Pupils Stage Recital Under Mrs Matson

Mrs Walter Matson of Huron presented piano pupils in a Lake Preston recital at the Lutheran church. The program featured pieces by Blanche Trewatha Wright Strickland and more with students including Patricia Bonner Ruth Johnson Vivian Hesby and Barbara Jean Whinsley. The teacher moved to Huron recently after graduating from Augustana college and plans to continue classes in Lake Preston this fall.

A family reunion was held at the J T ONeill home with about 40 relatives attending. Guests included three of Mrs ONeills brothers and extended families from Pasadena Watertown and Yankton among others. A dinner was served at the Ladies Aid hall as they spent the afternoon visiting and recalling memories.
