President Roosevelt nominated Harlan F. Stone of New York to succeed Charles Evans Hughes as Chief Justice and Senator James Francis Byrnes of South Carolina to the high court. Six Sioux Falls women fell ill with food poisoning after attending a country club luncheon on Wednesday. They ranged from two to five hours after the meal and were hospitalized. others remained ill at home. Semans Named To Methodist Post

Dr C J Semans of Rapid City long time superintendent of the western district for Methodist churches is transferred to the northern district to replace Dr F E Morrison of Huron who resigns due to ill health. Semans will start July 1 with headquarters in Huron while his family stays in the Black Hills. He began in Northwestern Kansas Conference in 1912 and rose to elder by 1916, served in Rap id City since 1924, taught at Dakota Wesleyan University from 1927 to 1937, then led the western district since.
