Nazi Executions Fail To Put Damper On Patriotism Of Norwegians

An Evening Herald report from New York on June 13 notes ongoing civil resistance in German-occupied Norway. Executions for aiding escapes, listening to foreign radio, and distributing ration aid reveal a broad struggle against Quislingism, with bishops resigning and thousands of teachers leaving the federation rather than accept Nazi control. The piece cites grim wartime conditions, concentration camps, and sentries deterring dissent, while Oslo and Norwegian figures face harsh reprisals yet persist in defiance. Norwegian losses and wartime costs, pegged at 3.9 billion crowns by Stockholm sources, underscore the heavy price of occupation.
