States Seek More Aid On Pensions
In Washington on June 8, the push for a larger federal share in old age pensions grows as many congressmen oppose the Townsend plan. Only about one in three of Americans over 65 receive a pension, with $6.05 to $32.46 paid in states like Arkansas and California. A bill would set federal contributions at half the pension up to $4 monthly, lifting the cap to $20. The issue likely fuels next year’s campaigns.
