Market Swine and Livestock Prices Dip Across Regions

Swine prices eased by 5 to 10 cents with top hogs at 9.95 as Armour Stock Yards reports softer bids. Cattle and sheep held steady, with long haul hogs well conditioned but mostly softer. Sioux Falls and Watertown markets show similar dips and steady to lower quotes across butchers, sows, cattle, veal, and lambs.

Hog and cattle market report from Chicago and St Paul

In Chicago hogs eased 10 to 15 cents as receipts of sheep rose and yearlings and light steers climbed up to 25 cents. Cattle and calves across St Paul showed gains to 25 cents, with best yearlings near 11.85 and heavy steers about 10.50 to 11.25, while hogs and sheep sold mixed with limited early sales and steady to higher bids.

NLRB Hearing Opens Over Armour Plant Labor Case

The NLRB hearing began today in Washington with Judge J C Baten presiding over charges that Armour and Company violated the National Labor Relations Act by discharging workers at the Huron plant for union activity. The case, filed by Amalgamated Meat Cutters Local 414, alleges firings of Eugene Zurek on December 21 1940 Lloyd Tobey on February 19 1941 and Clarence Hindman on February 25 1941 plus warnings to employees against joining or aiding the union. Witnesses and exhibits were being arranged as the session started near 1 15 p m after delays from preliminary matters.

De Smet Youngster Fatally Injured In Fall From Car

Billy Winsor five year old son of Mr and Mrs William Winsor of De Smet died from injuries after falling from a car three miles north of De Smet Wednesday evening. He was returning from a fishing trip at Big Stone Lake with his parents, found unconscious and rushed to Huron hospital where he died shortly after. The boy was an only child and the grandson of Mr and Mrs W F Klinkel of De Smet. Funeral arrangements had not been completed.

Youths Are Fined For Petit Larceny In Huron Court

Two Huron youths admitted stealing parts from a grain binder and selling them for junk. Albert Sackett, 24, and Darrell Vance, 18, pleaded guilty in municipal court and were fined 15 dollars each. Judge C N Hall presided. Sackett paid his fine. Vance remained jailed pending payment arrangements. A D Clemmens filed the complaint, noting the farm location two miles south of Huron.
