Burke Wins High Honors For Best Appearing Squad

An eight man squad of Aremen from Burke by the Rosebud country won two coveted honors on opening day of the State Firemen's association parade. The Mitchell department earned a $25 prize for largest representation, and Hot Springs received another $25 for the squad's greatest distance traveled to attend the five day convention. Chief Heerman urged local women to attend the free dance at Daum's auditorium. Delegates registered 245 with 14 new departments arriving since yesterday noon.

Hyde's Department To Save Millions

School Band Concert at Campbell Park Tomorrow Evening

Huron high school band directed by Lowell Albertus will perform a pair of annual outdoor concerts in Campbell Park starting at 7 30 pm with an expected 45 to 50 instrumentalists. New Tariffs Boost 200 Commodities In Canadian Budget

Ottawa reports new duties effective today on 200 imports including steel automobiles oranges and corn. Premier Bennett cited protectionist policy to shield Canadian industry and noted a July 1 15 cent per pound duty on magazines. Tariffs for automobiles vary by price and three classes of tariffs apply British intermediate and general. Estimated revenue from the changes totals 78 million dollars with subsidies for wheat and coal offsetting the budget deficit.

Lightning strikes Lenox dairy dam causing loss

A dairy dam on the Peas Goenuhal farm near Lenox was struck by lightning at about 4:00 a.m. today and destroyed. The loss is about $2,000, insured. Two calves were burned in the incident.

Tripp Dies in Sioux City at 65

Frank J. Tripp, 65, chief deputy clerk of the district court for 27 years, died in a Sioux City hospital after a two day illness. He issued marriage licenses during his tenure and was a long serving county official.
