Grain Storage Serious Problem In Beadle County
Grain storage is a serious problem in Beadle County and South Dakota this year. County Agent Leonard U dd notes space and cleanup on farms as key issues. Extension entomologist George L Gilbertson lists practical steps to prevent stored grain infestations from Cadelle beetles and other pests. He urges thorough bin cleaning, repairs, fumigation readiness, odorless pyrethrum spray, lime dusting, heat treatment for sacks, avoiding mixing seeds with grain, preventing damage to kernels, cleaning the last threshing load, and rodent control to curb insect transfer.
