Two Marines Die In Aerological Flight Crash
Walter Lee Pounders and Chalmers Lewis Martin, both U S Marines, were killed when their aerological aircraft crashed ten miles south of Managua. A relief party found the plane smashed on its side with both crew members in the wreckage. Pounders died instantly while Martin succumbed to injuries shortly after.

Gas Explosion in Tunnel Kills 12 Workers
In CAMP MITCHELL CALIF July 11 a gas explosion killed an entire shift of 12 men in a Hetch Hetchy project tunnel under San Francisco water works. Engineers said a natural gas pocket likely was struck and ignited. The eastern drift held the 12 victims while 13 men in the western drift were shaken and rescued with masks after initial gas flow.
