Lake projects boost South Dakota water area
Thirteen artificial lakes built by the South Dakota Game and Fish Commission add more than 10 000 square feet of water area equal to about 3.25 billion gallons. Costing roughly $100 per acre flooded, the program totals about $100 090 with expected high recreational and long term economic value. Artificial lakes were placed where natural recreational areas were lacking and have spurred local landscaping and development while improving hunting and fishing and boosting game and fish license revenue.
