Crop Insurance Still Endangered
The House pressed to curtail and abolish the administration’s four year old crop insurance program and sent the $875,000 agriculture appropriation bill back to the Senate. A 223 to 135 vote blocked increasing crop insurance funds from 3.5 million to 7.82 million and kept liquidation language. A conference-recommended change allowed incentive payments from a 400 million conservation fund to cover farmer commitments, permitting terracing and soil practices. The dispute now centers on crop insurance.
