Open Drive for Higher Tariff Seeks Cattle Market Action
Colorado state senator Claude H. Rees joined calls for higher duties as cattle industry faces unrest over possible removal of the South American meat embargo due to foot and mouth disease. Rees suggested retailers could bear slightly lower profits. J. S. Montgomery of Central Cooperative Association urged more cattle and meat imports, arguing Argentina would undersell U.S. producers if the embargo ends, affecting New York markets by $6 to $8.
