Pointed dip in hog and wheat prices ends in new year

BROOKINGS Jan 5 A state extension specialist says the low point for hog and wheat prices has passed at the start of the new year. He notes declines in corn and butterfat, with cattle and lamb markets varying by supply and timing, and predicts a seasonal hog price rise later winter and spring.

Still Hunt for Farm Laborer Near Conde

Search for James Meyers, a farm hand who vanished with an International one ton truck last Saturday revived after a trunk was found 20 miles south of Conde near Crocker, by Sheriff Floyd Bradley of Spink County. Meyers had been employed by A. H. Shrute, a farmer six miles east of Conde. the truck belonged to Mr. Schultz.

Canary Cordyke World Champion Butter Fat Cow Toasted

The world's champion butter fat cow Canary Cordyke was toasted at a banquet in Morose Jaw Saskatchewan attended by minister C M Stamton and 200 agriculture figures. The Holstein Friesian cow produced 1080 pounds butter fat in 305 days and 26396 pounds milk in the same period, was bought by the Saskatchewan government for 10000 dollars.

Trusty Small Rifle Used To Kill Two Deer

In Omatilla Ohio Jan 5 a tale tells of Robert Maxwell a year old boy armed with a 22 caliber rifle who went on a hunting expedition with a family member. He reportedly killed two buck deer with two shots near the home scene.

Fugate Settles $76 Check With $20 Extra Payment

George Fugate of Orient paid about $95 in a New Year settlement for a $76 check given to County judge P L Alexander as payment of a driving while intoxicated fine. He was under a one year driving prohibition and was halted in justice court by Sheriff Floyd Bradday, with costs assessed by Justice Arthur Moriarity.

Kingsbury County board of commissioners adjourned here yesterday to resume Tuesday the annual organization. They completed an inventory of the county farm and county road equipment during the session.

New Orleans Jap. 9. A 63 year old man L. A. Benner once interpreter to General Pershing and itinerant Baptist missionary died in a room at St. Charlies street lodging house. The coroner ruled death by natural causes though a note stated he had decided to end it.

J. C. Hagen, a Miller physician, elected president of the Huron district Medical Society at the annual meeting after a 6:30 dinner in the Marvin Hughitt hotel. Former Mitchell Banker Dies in Los Angeles

Louis Welch 48, once secretary of the State Bankers Association and former president of the First National Bank of Mitchell, died in Los Angeles after a long illness. He left Mitchell four years ago for La Salle, Illinois, then moved to California about a year ago seeking health. Survived by widow five children two brothers and a sister. Funeral arrangements not yet made.

Watertown Rejects Purchase Offer for Power Plant

Watertown authorities reject Northwestern Public Service Companys 400000 bid for the cities principal electric plant. The public utilities committee said acceptance would cause a city loss of more than 200000 and would raise electric rates above current city prices. The unanimous council vote followed committee recommendations.

London dispatch reports King George showing a further slight improvement in his condition after two days of stagnation. Doctors say he is passing days more comfortably and resting better at night, a sign the medical team considers encouraging.

Heavier Than Air Records Tumble

The airship fledgling, under Major Carl Spatz, faced fog and coast hazards in a January 2 flight from the port, extending till daylight as officials sought official credit for endurance. The ship, returning from Imperial Valley, risked fuel shortage amid fogs, with Wright Aeronautical expert W. E. Thomas noting an 80 minute ascent to 3,000 feet.

Flight log hints engines near full efficiency after long voyage

The report notes engines functioning normally and as efficient as at the start of the flight with logs indicating satisfactory performance.
