Trio Gets Five Years for Robbery Attempt

Miss Georgie Amos Dorothy Ryan and brothers Tom Martinson Olaf Nelson, all of Brookings, were sentenced by Judge W. W. Knight to five years in Ere state penitentiary after pleading guilty to assault with intent to commit robbery. The case stems from an attack two weeks earlier on Anon Henningsen, Brookings bachelor, who was lured to a secluded part of town and struck, with a robbery attempt following.

Bull Run Guard Dies at Beresford

Dewey, 96, former commander of the state G.A.R., died yesterday in Beresford. Born in Royaton VI, he enlisted at 13 and served at Bull Run and Gettysburg. He moved to Illinois in 1255 and later homesteaded in South Dakota near Draper. Survived by his widow and six children.

Groton Farmer Profits From Raising Hogs

Groton January 5 Special Randai Hall a local farmer reports strong profit from hogs. He bought eight bred sows last spring their litter totaled forty pigs he sold the sow and pigs except two choices kept. With sale proceeds he bought sixty five feeder pigs now grazing with feed costs only for the sow and brood for six months. Hall says high grade brood sows show clear profit.

New Teacher Hired at Gann Valley School

GANN VALLEY January 6 Special Due to larger enrollment an extra teacher was added to the grade department. Florence Wilson, a former teacher at the school, will fill the new position and begin work Monday January 7.

Countywide rat campaign kills thousands in county

In Aberdeen on January 6 Special. more than 2 400 pounds of poison bait were used in a county wide rat extermination drive led by Wallace W rodent control and Smith leader of the bureau of bio. Initial efforts killed about 75 000 rats with 25 000 in the city and environs. The campaign drew enthusiastic civic support as studies show an adult rat eats two bushels of grain annually. The county board voted to provide poison bait to all residents at cost.

Hog shipments to Huron and Omaha market

Three carloads of hogs were shipped to Huron by W. A Sowright, who also sent one car from Fairburn. T. B. Miller of Beaver Valley loaded two hog cars and one cattle car for the Omaha market.

Coyote Bagging by Iroquois Hunters Near Farm

A party of Iroquois natives hunting rabbits at night in a car near Exsil Luras farm succeeded in bagging a coyote. Albert Engel drove and Melvin Samuelson fired the shot. The coyote’s presence troubled Mr. Luras, who had suffered losses from coyotes before.
