40 Program Revised For Soil Conservation
South Dakota farmers can boost yields and soil health by using moisture efficiently. The Agricultural Conservation Program increases payments by about 10 percent per farm and coordinates efforts across the Department of Agriculture to halt soil depletion. Extension services and various agencies push soil conserving practices like crop rotation, contour farming, terraces, and perennial grasses to reduce erosion and improve moisture retention.
