Eugene Meyer Confirmed as Federal Reserve Board Governor
Eugene Meyer was confirmed today by the Senate as governor of the Federal Reserve Board after delays caused by Senator Brookhart and other opponents. The vote was 72 to 11 with support from Meyer’s allies who argued the appointment would not harm farmers and drew on his federal service background including roles on the War Industries Board and War Finance Corporation.

Mrs. Charlotte Johnson Franzen, a 7 year old Hitchcock pioneer born in Sweden in 1860, died at home from influenza. She immigrated in 1887 and lived in Hitchcock since. Survived by husband, brother John Johnson, and three sisters in Sweden. Funeral plans unclear but likely Sunday at Hitchcock Methodist church, with burial in Altoona cemetery.
